Moorabool Export Network - Final Workshop for 2007 - Monday 29th October

Intellectual Property & Marketing

In bygone days, many businesses would have rate their tangible assets as a major part of their business: in today's business world, intangible assets have gained prominence - the value placed on assets without physical or monetary form e.g. licences, trademarks, mastheads, patents, goodwill as well as the value placed on skills within the business like expertise in computers and information technology ...

Intellectual property provides statutory rights to subject matter including copyright patents, designs, and trademarks, and common law or equitable rights relating to confidential information and trademarks.

Marketing is a crucial strategy involving communications - these days, the web and having your business coming up first on a Google search, electronic communications using email facilities, brochures and advertisements strategically targeting a given market.

From the survey in May, members of the Moorabool Export Network listed these issues as a high priority, and we have managed to obtain Tony Irish from SED Consulting in Ballarat, and Peter Gretton, a Patents Attorney.

Local Community Partnerships

Local Community Partnerships are incorporated not-for-profit, community-based organisations that work with schools, local businesses and community organisations to help young people gain skills, experience and career guidance as they move through and beyond school.

Local Community Partnerships achieve this through building partnerships with local industries, employer groups and businesses, schools, professional career advisers, community organisations, parents, young people, youth service providers and other government organisations.

Through these affiliations, Local Community Partnerships facilitate three important programmes aimed at increasing the involvement of local businesses in young people’s career development:

Under the Career Advice Australia initiative, 213 Local Community Partnership regions have been set up across Australia to ensure that all young people are getting the support they need.
